End Of Watch: 10-12-11
Patrolman Derek Kotecki, 40, was ambushed and gunned down by the subject of a weeks long manhunt. On Oct. 2, one Charlie Post had fired several shots at his boss. The authorities had been hunting this bastard down ever since. At one point, a Detective made contact by phone with the gunman to try and get him to surrender. The suspect's words to the Detective were "My gun is loaded with 14 bullets. 13 for the cops and one for me." The Police got a tip stating that the suspect would be at the Dairy Queen at a certain time. Multiple Officers responded at 1900 this evening, including Ptl. Kotecki. As our Brother exited his cruiser, the suspect jumped from his vehicle and immediately opened fire, striking and killing Patrolman Derek Kotecki. The killer tried to flee on foot but came across a fence that blocked his escape. Officers were right on his tail. The gunman turned facing the Officers, pointed his weapon at the Police and then shot himself just as the Officers also opened fire. Post died at the scene. It has not yet been determined if the cop killer took his own life during the shoot-out or if hit by Police gunfire. It is possible that the person who called in the "tip" was Post himself in order to set up this ambush. This is an ongoing investigation and I will update as permitted. Don't you just fine these beautiful!!! I do as I think about the fabrics that I can buy in these colors and the quilts that I can create using these fabrics...There is so much out in the fabrics shops now days that can make your mind spin...but if you go in with a purpose in mind that narrows down the choices you want to make, then I think it is a win win situation...I always go for a way to make my choices work for me so I can still create and share with you all!!! With the candle burning and the color to inspire a great quilt in the making... I am looking forward to my next design...As I tend to have these moments to try something new... I always go back to the basic rules of design and that is to start with colors...from there I can draw or pick a design to do a mock up...if after looking through a multi image glass...and it takes on a new look for 2 or more images to merge then I am happy to cut and sew...presto a new quilt is born and the circle repeats itself again and again...just happy to express myself with some creativty and not waste my time just thinking about it...

Outside my window... the clouds are here and the fog has lifted...hope we get to have some sunshine today...

I am thinking...about my MRI results, I didn't realize that my docotrs office was closed today.

I am thankful for... for every Blessing that I and others have received from God today and every day...and so much more.

I am wearing... jeans with a jogging top and socks...with today being wash day, I need to get caught, then I will look better dressed!

I am remembering... family members that have passed on...I see there photos in hopes of making a record for our family heritage...I have also adde some stories to some of them that I remember...

I am going...load a quilt top to my quilting machine today and work on it as I have time...just enjoy the process...

I am currently reading... Debbie Macomber " Angels at Christmas"... still reading this one...

I am hoping... for my family to enjoy the memories that we share together and to have a lot more...

On my mind...is what to get my husband for his birthday! He is a hard one to buy for when he always says he needs nothing...

Noticing that...I need to go thru my recipes and get them on my computer and print out in a book for everyone in our family...

Pondering these words...God's Will...

From the kitchen... I am roasting a chicken in the oven with seasonings all over it...I love how the kitchen smells when something is in the oven...

Around the house...Seeing the snow melting outside, pool is filled with snow, and its time for a new mailbox...

The good side of this is I get to sew, sew and sew ... Laundry is in the washer and 1 load in the dryer so far. I have 2 quilt tops I want to work on this morning and quilt pieces to sew together to make another quilt top...Dinner will be in the crock pot for later...so now I have some free time to get things under way...

Bill with his favorite ( Blues Brothers) loving every minute of it!!!

New ... coming to Walt Disney World is the Harry Potter Castle...not sure what it will be as far as a ride or a show or what...but none the less exciting to see new attractions being built for 2010.

As for American Idol show that was awesome...they have several tryouts everyday and at the end of the day the finals compete again for the winner... cooool show...

We had a blast for 10 days as our annual Christmas Vacation done our way!!!

This is the quilt I made for my youngest daughter Jaime... I think she liked it...I hope she did...I need to get a photo of the one that I made our son-in-law Patrick... it was mostly black and I wanted to take a photo out in Tucson but didn't...I will try to post one soon?

I have already started on another one for my hubby...I found some great wine fabric ...bottles of wine and grapes so you know his theme...back to sewing!

Well it has been a long time since I have posted... I am here now and wanted to share a photo of my family in Tucson...this was the first time for 3 of them to see the desert and the sunshine so bright...as they reported to me that they all enjoyed and love to see all the different cactus plants all around...
I have quit a few thoughts on new quits to be made and the planning is beginning...I always find that fun to do...will show what I come up with...

Bloggers Quilt Festival 2009...

This morning I read about a "Virtual Quilt Festival" being hosted by Park City Girl.

This is one of my favorite quilts that I made for a gift...The center squares had been signed by there family members and a block was saved for the theme of the quilt ( 50 th Anniversary).

I think they were very surprised when they open the box...also I have been told that they had showed everybody they seen...When I visited during the summer I seen that it was draped over a rocking chair for everyone to see...I am very glad they enjoyed they work I put in it and the colors and sentiments...

I have finally finished a quilt top from 2005...from a quilting group I am in called " Shady Lane Quilters Haven"...there are 12 of that participated in this exchange of blocks and we all signed our names and the state that we are from...I have several of these type of quits to finish and will do so in the future...I just had to share this one for March - project of getting one done.

Thanksgiving Fun Facts

Over the Years

Though many competing claims exist, the most familiar story of the first Thanksgiving took place in Plymouth Colony, in present-day Massachusetts, in 1621. More than 200 years later, President Abraham Lincoln declared the final Thursday in November as a national day of thanksgiving. Congress finally made Thanksgiving Day an official national holiday in 1941.
Sarah Josepha Hale, the enormously influential magazine editor and author who waged a tireless campaign to make Thanksgiving a national holiday in the mid-19th century, was also the author of the classic nursery rhyme "Mary Had a Little Lamb."
In 2001, the U.S. Postal Service issued a commemorative Thanksgiving stamp. Designed by the artist Margaret Cusack in a style resembling traditional folk-art needlework, it depicted a cornucopia overflowing with fruits and vegetables, under the phrase "We Give Thanks."

Despite record-high gas prices (more than $3.00 per gallon) in 2007, the American Automobile Association (AAA) estimated that 38.7 million Americans would travel 50 miles or more from home for the Thanksgiving holiday, a slight increase (1.5 percent) over the previous year.
Of those Americans traveling for Thanksgiving in 2007, approximately 80 percent (31.2 million) were expected to go by motor vehicle, 12.1 percent (4.7 million) by airplane and the rest (2.8 million) by train, bus or other mode of transportation.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Minnesota is the top turkey-producing state in America, with a planned production total of 49 million in 2008. Just six states—Minnesota, North Carolina, Arkansas, Virginia, Missouri and Indiana—will probably produce two-thirds of the estimated 271 million birds that will be raised in the U.S. this year.
The National Turkey Federation estimated that 46 million turkeys—one fifth of the annual total of 235 million consumed in the United States in 2007—were eaten at Thanksgiving.
In a survey conducted by the National Turkey Federation, nearly 88 percent of Americans said they eat turkey at Thanksgiving. The average weight of turkeys purchased for Thanksgiving is 15 pounds, which means some 690 million pounds of turkey were consumed in the U.S. during Thanksgiving in 2007.
The cranberry is one of only three fruits—the others are the blueberry and the Concord grape—that are entirely native to North American soil, according to the Cape Cod Cranberry Growers' Association.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the largest pumpkin pie ever baked weighed 2,020 pounds and measured just over 12 feet long. It was baked on October 8, 2005 by the New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers in Ohio, and included 900 pounds of pumpkin, 62 gallons of evaporated milk, 155 dozen eggs, 300 pounds of sugar, 3.5 pounds of salt, 7 pounds of cinnamon, 2 pounds of pumpkin spice and 250 pounds of crust.

Three towns in the U.S. take their name from the traditional Thanksgiving bird, including Turkey, Texas (pop. 465); Turkey Creek, Louisiana (pop. 363); and Turkey, North Carolina (pop. 270).
Originally known as Macy's Christmas Parade—to signify the launch of the Christmas shopping season—the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade took place in New York City in 1924. It was launched by Macy's employees and featured animals from the Central Park Zoo. Today, some 3 million people attend the annual parade and another 44 million watch it on television.
Tony Sarg, a children's book illustrator and puppeteer, designed the first giant hot air balloons for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1927. He later created the elaborate mechanically animated window displays that grace the façade of the New York store from Thanksgiving to Christmas.
Snoopy has appeared as a giant balloon in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade more times than any other character in history. As the Flying Ace, Snoopy made his sixth appearance in the 2006 parade.
The first National Football League game held on Thanksgiving Day was in 1934, when the Detroit Lions played the Chicago Bears at the University of Detroit stadium, in front of 26,000 fans. The NBC radio network broadcast the game on 94 stations across the country. Outside my Window...the sun is shinning and the trees are starting to shed there leaves, you know fall is on its way…

I am Thinking...about where to start and what to do first in my home…I have bought shelving units and need to organize and labels the containers for future use…

I am thankful for... God’s Love and Grace…this I can say again and again…for family, friends and the air we breathe…

From the kitchen...I have my slow cooker on with ribs and salad ingredients along with tea brewing for ice tea…

I am creating... a few quilts, doll clothes for the American dolls, gourds that I have saved to paint, scrapbooking pages of our new Granddaughter…Karcy Marie…I am going...outside to clean and then close up our pool before the leaves fall…

I am wearing...black jeans, navy & white stripe big shirt ( so comfortable) and again in bare feet…

I am reading...a cookbook by Giada…some very delicious food recipes …WOW!

I am hoping... and praying for our family to be safe and healthy…for them to know that they are all loved…

September 8, 2008…

Outside my Window...the sun is shinning and I see a lot of yard that I need to do today…over the weekend I dug out 2 large bushes with my tractor, now I need to transplant them somewhere on our property…

I am Thinking...about a movie that I watched last night, it is call “The Secret” I was surprised that it was different than I thought it would be. I had seen it on the Borders and B&N booklist every week so I thought I would get the DVD and watch it…I thoroughly enjoyed it as a positive process for living…I believe in positive thinking and careful of what I let into my mind…

I am thankful for... for so much that I don’t think there is enough time to express it all…but here are a few things to start with. I am thankful for the man I married who lets me be me, that means a lot to me because I have to do and think what I feel, I don’t mean that in a negative way…but I do see things further down the road and respond accordingly. Next, because of the union of this man & I with God’s grace and love we made 3 beautiful, intelligent, loving, caring, independent and I could say a lot more, we are just so proud of all 3 of them and the women they have grown into. Because of there union with there soul mates they have blessed us with awesome grandchildren, 2- girls and 3 boys. I love them all so very much and love seeing them grow into the persons they are going to be…That in it self is God’s greatest blessings…

From the kitchen...I am presently eating a salad that is so delicious…as for our dinner today I am not quit sure what to fix but I do love to cook and will figure that out later…

I am creating... well I have been working on several quilts, scrapbooking, cards, and deciding the next color for my bathroom…I paint it very often as it is the room that I express myself with color and as I have been told that walls could stand up on there on with the amount of paint on them, I just laugh and smile…

I am going...to go threw my quilt fabrics and see if there is any that I need to finish projects…as I am sure there are items needed and love the trip to several quilt shops…LOL

I am wearing...black jeans, black and white top ( so comfortable) and again in bare feet…

I am reading…at the moment I am not reading any book but I do have some on my ipod that I am enjoying time to listen to…

I am hoping... and praying for a safe delivery of our new grandchild…

I am hearing...I have my ipod on and Robbie Robertson is singing one of my favorite albums called: Contact from the Underworld: Redboy…I love native American music…

Around the house...I am starting to decorate with fall colors and items that I have saved from year to year…

One of my favorite things...is my bath with plenty of hot water and a fragrance that fills the room…subdue lighting or candles , a beverage of the season maybe hot or cold and there has to be chocolate or ice cream bon bons, also the music is loud with some soothing sounds …

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...Quilt, scrapbook, play with grandchildren, shop for a few items that are needed, maybe a movie, make Drs. Appointments and spend time with hubby…

Outside my Window...I see the trees blowing and the sun is shining…My clothes line is ready for me to hang out a load of laundry…

I am Thinking...what to make for dinner today and the rest of the week. I have several ideas of what flavors I am craving…now it is just that I have to decide what to make…

I am thankful for... God’s Love and Grace…this I can say again and again…for family, friends and the air we breathe…

From the kitchen...I have decide to take down my old border and put on the new one I bought a year ago…not sure what I was waiting for, but the time is now!

I am creating... scrapbook pages of the photo’s that have been taken and not placed anywhere…that to is the time to get this done…

I am going...make a few bookcases and attach them to the walls in one of the bedrooms…I have a large collection of books and magazines that I wish to keep a little longer.

I am wearing...black jeans, a teal floral big shirt ( so comfortable) and again in bare feet…

Outside my Window...the sun is shinning and I think I will hang out some laundry today…along with making bread and cupcakes…

I am Thinking...that I need to make some plans for travel along with a list of clothing for the fall season…go through the winter clothes and make sure of what I need for us before shopping…

I am thankful for... God’s Love and Grace…for guiding me thru life and showing me the way to grow…

From the kitchen...I have a crock pot going as I usually do, what a great invention…even though I love to spend the day in the kitchen cooking for the week a or at least a few days at a time…I love to try new recipes when ever I can…

I am creating... as I stated last week, I have been working on scrapbooking pages, along with cutting out quilting blocks to sew, playing with a graphics program on my laptop…I love to be creative…

I am going...outside to mow the grass later and cut some branches that I have seen hanging down in my way…

I am wearing...blue jeans and a teal sleeveless shirt and again in bare feet…

I am reading...a book call “ Iron Rails In Seneca Land” this is the reservation that my grandfather is from and he and his brothers work on this railroad…

Outside my Window...the daylight is showing, but I think it is going to rain again…

I am thinking...about getting my laundry done, birthday gifts bought, some gardening weeded along with planning the meals for the week…

I am thankful for... that I can still learn from my family and friends things that I thought could not be done, That in it self gives me hope to dream…I had to leave this in for another week as I am amazed by my family…

From the kitchen...well I am going to add the beef to the crock pot with southwestern seasonings…this I learned from our newest son-in-law when he and our daughter visited at Easter time…Delicious!!!

Outside my Window...I see the sky is so blue, the trees are green, and the flowers are so beautiful with all the colors there are…

I am thinking... how nice it would be to just enjoy the day with out having to accomplish anything but rest and relaxing…

I am thankful for... that I can still learn from my family and friends things that I thought could not be done, That in it self gives me hope to dream…

From the kitchen...I am cooking a casserole with chicken, carrots, celery, onions, potatoes, with a light dusting of herbs…this is all in chicken stock that I had made at the beginning of the month…

I am creating...a quilt that can be taken outside on the grass so I don’t have to worry about stains…I came upon suit fabric that my Gram had and with some denim I decided this was the purpose for these fabrics…

I am going...to the post office to mail out FQ’s for an exchange that I am in…

I am wearing...black Capri’s , Bright Floral Blouse and barefoot…

I am reading...The Cross Country Quilter by Jennifer Chiaverini along with Mary Jane’s Farm magazine…

I am hoping... and praying for a safe delivery of our new grandchild…

I am hoping...that our Grandson’s MRI comes back O.K. and I pray he is feeling better and most of all what causes his headaches…

I am hearing… the TV and the birds outside in the trees…

Around the house...we have hostas and yuccas growing everywhere…with flowers blooming and trees that we need to cut down…

One of my favorite things...at this time of the year is SWIMMING…

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...get ready for the 4th of July…make sure I have enough windows for camp…DVD”S for the evenings when not working and it is raining…

For Today
Outside My Window...the sun is out but I don't think for to long, as we are going to have thunderstorms in the afternon.

I am thinking...what I have to get done today to stay on track...then to go out and enjoy the sun and do some weeding.

I am Thankful for...the rain that is providing our water in our home, for our garden and flowers, all the animals that live outside. Also for my husband and family to celebrate the holidays with.

From the Kitchen...the 6" shrimp cooking with Old Bay seasoning on the grille, then added by a vegetables ( green peppers, onions, mushrooms ) followed by 2 steaks...so good!

I am creating...a new garden design that I once had when we lived in a small town, it was amazing that it feed a lot of our neighbors and family.

I am going...to the bank and make deposites, post office to mail invoices out, back home to layout some patterns and enjoy some red tea.

I am wearing...black jean capri's, with a blue top that has light blue dots and barefoot of course.

I am Reading...The Best Basic & Easy Recipes of Texas Cooking, I love to read cookbooks.

I am hoping...that what I have plan to get done this summer does get done before fall, that our new grandchild is born healthy and happy.

Around the House... sits lots of projects to start to finish...rooms to be cleaned.

One of My Favorite Things... is to read a book by the pool and have a refreshing drink beside me.

A Few Plans For the Rest of the Week... get my SUV inspected, play with our grandchildren, quilt a few things, and cut the grass.

Outside my Window...I see the trees blowing with the wind and the sun is shining.

I am thinking...I need to get my laundry done…weeding done…then go swimming…

I am thankful for...for all in our Family, that we may get to be together and enjoy each other…

From the kitchen...my slow cooker with a pot roast in it surrounded by carrots and potatoes, various other veggie’s…cake from our Granddaughters birthday for desert…

I am creating...an oasis outside under a few trees to sit and read, hand quilting, and maybe a nap…

I am going...to start the shopping list for the week, do office work, send out cards…I am wearing...black Capri’s , red striped top and barefoot…

I am reading...Quilters Companion, PSP book, several magazines…

I am hoping...for our plans we have made get done and we can make new ones to do…

I am hearing...music and the washer right now…

Around the house...we have hostas and yuccas growing everywhere…with flowers blooming and trees that we need to cut down…

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...take our grandchildren to the movies to see Kung Fu Panda…Scrapbook a few more pages and maybe finish one of the books I am working on…

FOR TODAY

Outside my Window...the grass is grown and cut already this year, flowers looks beautiful, birds singing...

I am thinking… I need to get the pool ready with new water for summer, finish a book I am reading, get the office work done, realax...

I am thankful for...for this opportunity to express my Thanks in meeting so many wonderful friends online and be able to have this forum to type it down…

From the kitchen...a cup of coffee with my hubby, a bowl of cereal and a cup of yogurt to start the day off…

I am creating...a library of my quilting books, crafting books, patterns and information that I have collected over the years…

I am going...to work on the quilts I have started, cook ribs for dinner, give more water to the dogs...

I am wearing...blue jeans, blue top with white polka dots and so far I am in my barefoot…

I am reading... Dear Jane quilt book, also Mary Janes Farm...for starters...

I am hoping...The sun is shining and the grass is cut...what a beautiful day!

I am hearing...my ipod playing flute music...hubby getting ready for work...

Around the house...there are trees bloming, flowers growong and yard work to get done...

One of my favorite things...is quilting and sewing… talking with my daughters and playing with my grandchildren...

The Simple Woman's Daybook~May 19th

FOR TODAY

Outside my Window...well it looks cloudy and I see that it had rained.

I am thinking… that I need to organized my sewing room, pick-up my granddaughter from pre-school, cook dinner, work on my Dear Jane blocks, I am also planning what to plant in my garden…

I am thankful for...for this opportunity to express my Thanks in meeting so many wonderful friends online and be able to have this forum to type it down…

From the kitchen...a cup of coffee with my hubby, a bowl of cereal and a cup of yogurt to start the day off…

I am creating...a library of my quilting books, crafting books, patterns and information that I have collected over the years…

I am going...to visit with our oldest daughter and son-in-law and grandson, it has been a year in June since we have gotten to see each other…I am so excited that I am writing down a list of what to take so I don’t forget anything…can I tell you that I have tears in my eyes with joy…

I am wearing...blue jeans, navy top with white polka dots and so far I am in my barefoot…

I am reading... the road atlas, making plans for stops along the way…we usually fly, but I have a lot to take…

I am hoping...warm weather, for my family to be happy and safe always…

I am hearing...washer running, birds singing, a tractor far off in the distance…

Around the house...the grass has grown, trees have bloom, flowers have sprouted, wood rack needs filled and I think we are going to have a great season…

One of my favorite things...is quilting and sewing, I am busy with several quilts in progress, ideas to make more, dresses to make for our granddaughter, baby blanket to knit for our newest addition in October…

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...cut the grass, food shopping, porch furniture out and cleaned, enjoy our trip and holiday…

Outside my Window...it has been raining, the signs of a wet deck and the leaves are blowing.

I am thinking...about how to sell my Quilts and handmade items online.

I am thankful for...my home and the love in it

From the kitchen...Dinner in the crock pot and bread to be made in the bread machine, later in time for dinner.

I am creating...Photo archive of our family as they grow.

I am going...to be much more careful with my driving because of the cost of gas, think before I spend.

I am wearing...navy blue Demin & Co. pants with a red top and my Berkies.

I am reading... a quilt book about Dear Jane.

I am hoping...for a healthy grandchild to be born this year, and for our family to be safe and healthy and prosper in God's will.

I am hearing...the birds outside cherping and our 2 dogs drinking water.

Around the house...I need to mow the grass and til the garden, plant some bushes and change the outside bulbs.

One of my favorite things...is sweet tea, a long bath.

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week...load my quilt machine with a quilt to be done, upload photo's, sew a few outfits, etc.

Love canning your own foods? Yes, Tomatoes, pickles, relish, pie fillings, meat, peppers etc.
Or dream about one day actually having a bit of land to stretch out on? We do have the land and enjoy it...
